Telekom Slovenije to Install Test 5G Network in Kopar

Telekom Slovenije is to set up a test network featuring 5G technology at port operator Luka Koper to explore development options and test various logistics solutions, the company announced.

The 5 infrastructure is planned to offer not just communications services, but also a range of others, such as logistics, transport, healthcare, energy, production facilities, smart cities and communities, STA reports.

As said, the Port of Kopar will use the latest generation wireless technology to test security solutions, as well as process optimization and environmental protection.

Since the new technology enables a quicker transfer of large amounts of data, it should help improve security control, but also facilitate consumption of electrical energy.

The company adds that similar solutions will be tested in Hamburg and Piraeus.

The project is co-financed from Horizon 2020, the EU's key 2014-2020 research and innovation multi-billion fund, and the value is 8 million euros.

It should be completed in 2023, and it is also said that Slovenia and the town of Kopar are participating in other European technological 5G projects.

In early March, the Government of Slovenia stopped the implementation of 5G technology.

The government removed the strategy of the AKOS regulator on the distribution of the frequency range for 5G from the agenda, at the proposition of minister Rudi Medved.

He told the Slovenian media that “the questions of the harmfulness of the 5G technology are legitimate”.
