HPPs Djerdap 1 and Zvornik Break Daily Records – Revitalization of Generators at HPP on the Danube

The hydro power plants Djerdap 1 and Zvornik broke daily records for production of electricity on Thursday, June 25, the power distribution company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) announced.

– On that date, 26.366 million kWh was produced at out largest HPP, Djerdap 1, whereas the HPP Zvornik produced 2.827 million kWh – EPS says in the press release.

These two records, EPS says, are important as they are a direct result of the revitalization of the two HPPs. In late January, the revitalization of four generators was completed at the HPP Zvornik, whereas the revitalization of the last, sixth generator at the HPP Djerdap 1, should begin soon.

Since it was put into operation, the HPP Djerdap 1 has produced 273.3 billion kWh of electricity.

– In its 65 years of existence, the HPP Zvornik has now set a new daily record for the production of electricity and exceeded the plan by 173%.

The record was broken thanks to all four revitalized generators, at an average water flow of four times 171.5 cubic meters per second, with an average power of four times 29.45 MW.

Under the current hydrology conditions, the new generators are producing around 20% more energy than the old ones, EPS emphasizes.

– The revitalization has led to an increase in the production of electricity, a reduction of maintenance costs and an extension of the HPPs' life cycle by 30 to 40 years – the press release says.
