Delta Agrar invests 26m EUR in expansion of orchards in Čelarevo - cold storage plant for apples soon


Delta Agrar announced that it had launched the project for expansion of the orchard in Čelarevo to another 500 ha prior to 2013. The value of this investment is 26m EUR. In addition to the expansion, a ULO (ultra low oxygen) cold storage plant for apples, worth 6m EUR, with the capacity of 6,000 t, will also be built in Čelarevo this year.
Major share of apple crops from the orchard in Čelarevo is exported to the market of Russian Federation. Delta Agrar plans to export 10,000 tons of apples to Russia in 2010.

The achieved results helped Podunavlje estate in Čelarevo win the Kapetan Miša Anastasijević award for year 2009 in the category of Best Exporter. This award is granted for the achieved results in the affirmation of entrepreneurial culture and creativity on the territory of Vojvodina, under the patronage of the Regional Chamber of Commerce Novi Sad, the Novi Sad Faculty of Technical Sciences and agency Media Invent. On behalf of Podunavlje, the award was received by Nikola Milićević, the manager of the estate, in the premises of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad.
Apple plantation at Podunavlje estate is the most modern orchard in this part of Europe. It occupies the space of 125 ha and includes 500,000 trees of top-quality apple sorts: Gala, Braeburn Mariri Red, Red Delicious, Granny Smith and Gold Delicious. The whole surface of the orchard is covered by the net for anti-hail protection and the anti-frost system. The orchard also comprises a weather station, it is covered by GPRS system, and the control of parameters and management are done via computer.
