The Government of Serbia is close to terminating everything that was agreed with Rio Tinto in 2004, even to renege on what was exclusively given to Rio Tinto in 2006, and we are ready to do so, to say, “you don’t want Rio Tinto in Serbia, fine, they’re leaving”, the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, said on TV Pink.

She added that the Government was “truly on the verge of” terminating all the contracts with Rio Tinto and Great Britain.

– We neither brought them over, nor promised, nor did anything that people didn’t know about. Everything we did was transparent. We are listening to our people – Brnabic commented on the protests over the arrival of this company to Serbia.

She added that it only remained to be seen “what the cost is” and how much needs to be paid for the termination of the contracts. Brnabic, however, added that she would further discuss the issue with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and said that “he is against it”.

– He is against it. He doesn’t like us to fulfill the demands of foreigners, foreign services, agencies which are supported with foreign money, but let’s see what happens – Brnabic said.
