Belgrade Official Candidate for Organization of Expo 2027

The Republic of Serbia, City of Belgrade – is the official candidate for the organization of Expo 2027, with the theme “Play for Humanity – Sports and Music for All”. It is an opportunity for Belgrade to host millions of visitors from Serbia and the whole world and thereby solidify its status of a regional center of culture and arts, the press release says.

It is added that this exhibition is an event of national importance.

The first presentation on the occasion of Serbia’s candidacy was held this June in Paris, during the 170th session of the General Assembly of Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). A BIE delegation, whose task was to estimate Serbia’s capacities and possibilities, visited the country in September.

– The very important upcoming presentation of our candidacy will take place on November 28, at the 171st BIE General Assembly. Within this presentation at the Assembly, the speakers will include Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, Sports Minister Zoran Gajic, Belgrade City Urban Planner Marko Stojcic and our prestigious artists, stars in the local cultural sky – the world-renowned violinist Stefan Milenkovic and the European-class actor Miki Manojlovic, whereas Serbia’s biggest athlete and brand ambassador, Novak Djokovic, will make a special address to the audience through a video link – it is added.

In June 2023, according to the principle “one country – one vote”, the 170 BIE member countries will select the host country through secret voting.

– If we get to host Expo 2027, we expect Belgrade to be visited by over 2.6 million people, whereas the economic effect will amount to EUR 1.1 billion, in the sense of the impact on the tourism and other industries – it is pointed out.
