The beginning of the preparatory works for the construction of the Kostolac wind farm – with a power of 66 MW, in the farming areas of the villages of Cirikovac, Klenovnik, Petka and Drmno – are marked by geomechanical ground explorations, which entail boreholes in the location where the wind generators, the substation and the switchgear are planned to be installed.

Said explorations are necessary because they are supposed to prove the quality and the stability of the ground and point to the potential presence of ground waters. Upon their completion, based on the results, the designing will be done.

– The preparation of the foundations for the wind pylons is expected to begin in February next year. The plan includes 20 wind generators and 20 pylons, as well as the construction of a substation, a switchgear and an internal cable network. The first on the list are the switchgear and the substation, which will be located in the Drmno location, whereas the commenced construction of the roads is a pre-requirement for the physical access to each wind generator position – says the head of the project, Predrag Djordjevic.

According to the agreement signed in April, the equipment will be delivered by Siemens Games for EUR 103.7 million. It will be transported by special trucks with 10 axles, around 60 meters long – by the routes from the Port of Smederevo to each of the four locations. The deadline for the completion of all the works expires in September 2024, when the entire facility should be put into operation. What follows then is the obtaining of the exploitation permit.

The feasibility study envisages for the annual production to exceed 150 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
