The Trade Union says that they were told that the rights of around 500 employees would be honored. The minister of agriculture of Serbia, Jelena Tanaskovic, says that the decision on the closing is not final, the Danas daily reports.
Tanaskovic said that the German company, which had bought the meatpacking factory Mitros and gotten state subsidies, had complied with the deadline of five years that it was obligated to operate in Serbia.
– They have not yet made the decision on a full exit and closing. But they will certainly have the production reduced. They haven’t managed adequately, they can’t match European prices, and they have in fact probably planned to put all the meat products in the German market – Tanaskovic says.
– I’ll see what to do next and how, what their propositions are and what ours are. Whatever their decision ends up being, the state is there for the employees, the workers, and of course, it is there to seek, to help that factory, that company, find a new owner, if they exit the Serbian market – Tanaskovic said, as reported by Biznis.
According to her, the owners are coming to Serbia these days and she will meet with them, RTS writes.
