Feasibility Study Being Prepared for Excavation of 16 Megatons of Copper and 333 Tons of Gold from Cukaru Peki Mine Lower Zone – Green Permit Also Required

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has adopted the decision saying that it is necessary to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment Study of the project of the exploitation of the copper and gold mineral resources from the lower zone of the Cukaru Peki mine in Bor.

Let us remind that, at the end of October, Zijin Mining doo Bor filed a request to the competent ministry for a green permit for underground exploitation, the value of which had been estimated at USD 3.8 billion.

According to the results of the explorations, the lower zone of the Cukaru Peki mine contains 16 megatons of copper and 333 tons of gold.

According to the Decision, the project is on the list of projects for which an impact assessment is necessary, but is on the list of projects for which this assessment may be requested.

– Considering the announced activities, the size and the location of the project, it has been concluded that the project could have a substantial impact on the environment and an environmental impact assessment is therefore needed – the decision says.

It is also said that the exploitation project is currently in the phase of the preparation of a feasibility study. It is added that the previous feasibility study, matching the preliminary design, has already been prepared, and the spatial purpose plan is being prepared. The Environmental Impact Assessment Study will be done parallel with the Feasibility Study.
