Disassembly of Kamenicka Parking Lot Commissioned – Beginning of Construction of Tunnel Announced for End-May

The PUE Parking Service Belgrade has opened the tender for the disassembly and transport of the pre-fabricated parking lot of the fast-park type “Kamenicka” in Karadjordjeva Street.

The tender envisages the disassembly and transport of the disassembled elements to the International Terminal Block 43.

The total area of the fast-park structure to be disassembled is 990 m2.

The disassembly of this parking lot, all things considered, amounts to preparatory works ahead of the beginning of the long-since-announced construction of the tunnel whose entrance portal will be located precisely in the zone of Kamenicka Street, and which will exit to Palilula in Despota Stefana Blvd.

For a long time now, there have been speculations about when the more concrete works on this tunnel might begin, and according to the most recent announcement made by the head city urban planner, Marko Stojcic, yesterday, as the Blic daily reports, they should start at the end of May. As Stojcic pointed out, they will begin in Despota Stefana Blvd.

– The tunnel is around two kilometers long and its role is to direct the traffic from New Belgrade, which goes toward Palilula, Zvezdara and the bridges on the Danube, underground, so that there is no transit traffic in the city center, so the traffic will be unloaded by one fifth there – Stojcic assures.

Let us remind that, around a month ago, the president of the Temporary Organ of the City of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, said that the first works on the tunnel from Karadjerdjova Street near the Faculty of Economics to the Despota Stefana Blvd, announced for decades, would start at the end of April or at the beginning of May. Sapic emphasized at the time that “we have succeeded in shortening the methodology of the construction of that tunnel,” but didn’t explain what it meant exactly or what it entailed.
