Sabac becomes a center of veterinary genetics

A Veterinary specialized institute (VSI) in Sabac and a ganeticist, Miodrag Stojkovic, signed a Protocol of cooperation in forming a data bank of genetic material of domestic races of hogs and cattle.

This institute and professor Stojkovic are working on a project of improving the race of domestic hog known as "mangulica" and "podolski" cattle.

According to the words of director of VSI, Vladimir Spegar, by this project will be also reasearched a genetically valuable material of the individual races.

On the grounds of the meat quality, it is a matter of meat with small quantity of cholesterol and this kind of product could find its place on the European market.

In beginning there will be made a gene bank, and then they will direct their attention to quality increase, as it is a matter of a hog that has very little number of pigs.

He added that the funding and technical conditions for the project have been secured, and the realization would begin in 3 months.
