Reconstruction of bridge in Karakaj begins

The reconstruction of the bridge in Karakaj, which has been closed to trucks of over 5 tons since April 8 this year due to the damage, has officially begun, as Goran Vesic, the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, announced on his social network profiles.

– Immediately after the damage was confirmed, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure opened the tender for the reconstruction of the bridge, selected the best bidder and signed the agreement. The value of the works on the reconstruction of the bridge is RSD 560 million – said Vesic.

As he adds, the reconstruction of the bridge is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Let us remind that the technical check carried out by the PE Roads of Serbia as per the order of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia detected damage to the load-bearing structure of the bridge, which led to the ban on traffic and pointed to the necessity of an urgent reconstruction of the bridge.

There are 11 bridges between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia for road traffic, and the agreement which is currently in effect says that B&H maintains five bridges, and Serbia six. The maintenance of the bridge in Karakaj, in line with the agreement, is entrusted to Serbia.
