The mayor announced the installation of municipal-security stations, that is, the introduction of cameras in 220 elementary schools and 400 kindergartens. All those cameras will be monitored from one supervision center, which Sapic says will open in a month.
As he said, there will be a special service which will follow the cameras in education institutions, and everything will be done with the help of state-of-the-art software, said the mayor.
According to him, the software reacts to weapons or any hard object.
– That makes it easier for the police, and we are preparing another project of that kind which will be especially revolutionary – said Sapic.
For November, he announced the construction of the “new Serbian bridge”, pointing out that he didn’t know at that moment whether that would be its official name. The completion is planned for late 2026 or early 2027, and the tunnel should be completed a year later.
Sapic also announced the contest for the designing of a new zoo, which should be modeled after the one in Valencia, Spain.
The mayor also talked about removing the cobblestones from Karadjordjeva Street, the construction of four traffic lanes and the building of the bypass route around the city center, as he called it – “the small main road.” A large pedestrian zone and a link with Kalemegdan will be built in the Terazije Fountain area.
Sapic said that, on that day, the commission for monuments and the naming of squares and streets would be formed.
– I will now publicly call for it, and I can’t influence that decision, nor can the City of Belgrade, but I believe that moving the remains of Josip Broz from the Museum of Yugoslavia is extremely important for the Serbian people, as is the moving the remains of the four national heroes from the Kalemegdan Fortress – Sapic said and called it Serbia’s biggest cultural heritage that had the least to do with communists.
He reminded that that decision was up to the Ministry of Culture, and the mayor promised that the city would help carry out “a quality exhumation and the moving of those bodies,” pointing out that nobody’s bones would be scattered.
Sapic said that, thanks to the announced commission, the next day, he would launch an official initiative for the construction of a monument to Dragoljub Mihailovic in the Terazije Terrace park below the Terazije Fountain.
