– They are already present in our country, especially when it comes to fast railroads, because their systems are used on the signalization. I have given them an idea of what they can do when it comes to the management of highways and railroads – said Vesic.
He added that the propositions of Huawei would be considered and emphasized that the company was very good at optimizing the traffic, reducing the costs and using artificial intelligence.
– Almost certainly, we will be ready to cooperate with them as well, just like we already cooperate when it comes to fast railroads – said Vesic.
As he said, the idea is to have all our highways and fast routes managed from a single place. To know where accidents happen, to have the entire signalization system warning drivers to slow down, to automatically redirect traffic in order to avoid traffic jams and to also provide information to drivers in case of weather emergencies.
– For us, it is very important and we are trying to turn our existing 1,000 kilometers of highways into smart highways, because, by 2030, according to the new directive of the European Commission, not vehicle in the European Union can be produced unless it has the communication, in case of complications, with the main road managers in the sense of the vehicle getting the information about speed limits, about how to act on the road, which is very important for the safety, but we have to be ready for our highways to be that way – Vesic said and added that the new highways under construction in Serbia were being built to be smart.
