The majority of the total number of prosumers is represented by households, of which there are 3,100. The fewest prosumers are in the category of residential communities - only four residential communities opted for this type of electricity production. In second place in terms of number, but definitely in first place in terms of installed power, there are prosumers who are classified in the category Other consumers-producers, numbering 1,200 prosumers.
Total installed power over 84 MW
The total installed power of all consumers-producers (prosumers) in the Republic of Serbia is 84.8 MW.
A number of residential communities that are currently registered in the Register as consumers-producers are located in Subotica, Pancevo, Nis and recently in the capital – City Municipality of Batajnica with an installed power of solar power plants of 79.5 kW.
The Other consumer-producer category has 1,200 producers, whose total installed capacity is 59.4 MW.
Daily growth in the Other Consumers-Producers category
In its first analysis from April 2024, the Association RES Serbia placed a special emphasis on the category Other consumers-producers. The majority are telecommunications facilities, of which there are 362 with an installed power of 3.9 MW, with the largest installed power, almost 36.3 MW, represented by 223 industrial facilities. In terms of number, other economic facilities are significant, which include markets, restaurants, shopping centers and other businesses, of which there are 470 with 15.9 MW of installed power. Only 26 registered prosumers are state institutions, with less than 1 MW of installed power, while this category also includes 18 churches, 17 schools and 7 kindergartens.
There are currently 3,100 prosumer households in Serbia
The Household category recently crossed the 3,000-prosumer mark, a growth of nearly 300 prosumers in a three-month period. The current installed capacity of consumer-producer households is more than 25 MW.
There are differences in the number of consumers-producers in the statistical regions of the Republic of Serbia. The region of Vojvodina leads with over 1,100 prosumers, which is a third of the total number of all prosumers in this category, while the regions of Sumadija and Western Serbia have 613. The city of Belgrade has twice as few prosumers as Vojvodina, i.e. 512 prosumers, while the regions of Eastern and Southern Serbia have 867 prosumers.
There are municipalities in Serbia that still do not have a single prosumer, such as Crna Trava and Bela Palanka, while the municipality of Presevo recently got its first customer-producer.
Dispersion in the number of prosumers in the municipalities of the capital is high. The most populated municipalities have the fewest prosumers – City Municipality of New Belgrade has 4, while CM Stari grad and CM Vracar have one prosumer each. CM Zemun (75), CM Palilula (56) and CM Obrenovac (52) are the only ones with over 50 prosumers.
In the Republic of Serbia, an increasing number of prosumers actively contribute to sustainable energy production and not only use the produced electricity for their own needs, but also send surplus energy back to the electricity distribution system. This system allows every customer to participate in energy production and contributes to sustainability.
The importance of prosumers, as well as their extremely rapid growth, is increasingly taking center stage in public discourse. In order to further improve and develop the infrastructure for the efficient use of solar energy, at the upcoming conference RES SERBIA 2025, one of the topics of the panel discussion will be dedicated to consumers.
The data were taken from the Register of Elektroprivreda Srbije on January 27, 2025.
