Lucic: 5G network to arrive to Serbia in second half of 2025

In the second half of the year, the 5G network is to arrive to Serbia, and Telekom Srbija is already carrying out preparations in order to ensure top quality and quick implementation, said the CEO of Telekom Srbija, Vladimir Lucic.

– I have to emphasize – and everybody can check this when they travel abroad – that Serbia already now has very good mobile networks. Our operators are working hard on the preparations for the 5G technology. We are already buying and installing 5G base stations, so that we wouldn’t invest in 4G in the era of 5G. As soon as we get a license, a certain number of stations will be immediately put into operation, and then we will quickly cover the main cities. We expect the 5G network to become available throughout the country by the end of the year – he said.

The aim, he says, is to be fully prepared for EXPO 2027, where telecommunications companies will play a key role in connecting the participants and visitors for the duration of the event.

When asked what the 5G network brings and what its benefits are, Lucic responds:

– 5G is not just faster internet – it’s a technological leap which enables nearly instant connecting of devices. Although there are still not enough services to enable the users to feel the full potential immediately, this network will be crucial to the development of robotics, sensors and artificial intelligence. A faster and reliable communication between machines opens the door to full automation in industry, healthcare and transport. AI and 5G combined will change the way we live. Of course, there are challenges, such as the big energy consumption, but the world is working at a rapid pace to develop solutions which will remove these obstacles.
