The broker Nenad Gujanicic says that a change is apparent, but that it still can’t mean that Gazprom is the majority owner of NIS and that there will be no sanctions because of that. It remains to be seen what will happen in the coming hours.
When asked whether Gazprom might take over all the remaining shares of NIS, thereby avoiding the introduction of sanctions, he says that he can’t comment on it.
This way, two years ago, Gazprom managed to solve the problem of supplying NIS with oil, as the EU had introduced a package of sanctions which banned supply with Russian oil. With the acquisition of 6.15% of NIS shares at that moment, Gazprom also managed to solve the issue of the oil which will arrives via Janaf.
