A pedestrian bridge from the quay to Lido beach will be built in Zemun

At the last session of the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, held at the beginning of March, the councilors adopted the Decision on the development of a Detailed Regulation Plan for the construction of the pedestrian bridge between the Liberation Quay (Kej oslobodjenja) and the Lido swimming beach in Zemun.

- The City Municipality of Zemun initiated this idea, with the hope that we will meet nature lovers to spend more time on the Great War Island (Veliko ratno ostrvo), longer than the two or three months of summer season, when the Municipality traditionally provides them with a pontoon bridge for crossing to the other shore and the bathing area - says the President of the City Municipality of Zemun, Gavrilo Kovacevic, and reports from this city municipality.

The process of gathering the necessary documentation, as Kovacevic explains, requires time, because a detailed regulation plan needs to be drawn up, and then it goes again for approval before the councilors of the City of Belgrade Assembly. After that, it is only possible to prepare the Conceptual Solution, apply for location conditions, create a project for a building permit, register works and select contractors.

It is also necessary to examine the riverbed, silt, sand, and even the movement of ice masses in the winter period, as well as to obtain the consent of the Institute for Nature Protection, because in 2022, Great War Island was declared a protected Natural Good, i.e. a nature park, taken care of by the Institute and PUC Zelenilo Belgrade.

- The construction of a pedestrian bridge that connects the two symbols of Zemun, Quay and Lido, would save a lot of money for the cost of installing a pontoon bridge every season, and staying in nature and on the Danube would become an unforgettable adventure for a large number of our fellow citizens and tourists - said Kovacevic.

The construction of the bridge will enable unimpeded boat traffic, and as stated on the website of the Municipality, a special experience for all visitors will be the opportunity to drink coffee on the water in untouched nature, with an unforgettable view of the city.
