"April in Belgrade": Removal of main structure of Old Sava Bridge has begun

It is expected that other parts of the central structure will be dismantled in a similar manner in the coming period, including the recognizable green arch of the bridge that was built during the German occupation of Belgrade during World War II.
As pointed out earlier, the bridge will be dismantled into parts that will be temporarily stored in the contractor's warehouse. Meanwhile, the pillars and construction of the new Sava bridge will be built
for which the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure issued a construction permit last autumn.
Let us recall that the task of designing the new bridge was given to the Faculty of Technical Sciences from Novi Sad, Mostogradnja ing doo, Millenium team and IO Designe enterprise from Belgrade.
The contractor is PowerChina, and expert supervision will be performed by Louis Berger Adria and CPM consulting. As previously stated on the website "Srbija2027", the construction of the bridge should be completed in 2027, although in the meantime it was announced from the Old Palace that the work could be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
Let us remind you that in the fall of 2022, the Serbian Parliament adopted a bill on the confirmation of a loan agreement of EUR 79.9 million. The government signed a loan agreement with the China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation with the BNP Paribas group. As the total value of the project and construction, as it was pointed out at the time, EUR 94 million was determined, and this is the amount that will be paid to the Chinese contractor Power China. A maximum of 85% of the total value of the work is financed from the loan, as foreseen and announced at the time.
The future permanent location of the Old Sava Bridge has been the subject of speculation for years. One of the options, which was announced for the citizens' choice, was to place the bridge in the Usce Park and to represent a sculpture in the space below which cultural contents would be organized. The second was for it to be a pedestrian-bicycle connection between Block 70 and Ada Ciganlija, but the one that is mentioned the most and which is also the most current is the move to Zemun as a future link between the Great War Island and the Danube bank of Zemun.
