The village of Lipovac near Topola is home to the young Dika Winery, which was founded in 2023, although here, at the foot of the mountain Vencac, grapevine has been grown for decades. The Petrovic family currently has vineyards spreading on two hectares, in two locations – Kamenar and Vencac.

They grow both local and international varieties from which wines are made: Tamjanika, Sauvignon blanc (rested in barrels of 500 liters), Merlot, Rose (Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Muscat Hamburg) and Crna Dana (a cuvee of Vranac and Merlot).

– The selection in our vineyards was made based on the characteristics of the soil, the area and, of course, the human factor, the feel, the experience – Dimitrije Petrovic says for eKapija and adds that, of the indigenous varieties, in addition to Tamjanika and Vranac, they also have Smederevka and Prokupac, planted back in 1985.

He points out that our indigenous varieties have remarkable potential and that they are in great demand in the market.

– The demand for Tamjanika in restaurants and wine cellars shows us an expansion of a wine culture of drinking young, fruity, muscat wines. That is only the beginning of a variety like Tamjanika, where the variety itself has potential for being rested in barrels and amphoras – adds Petrovic.

He is proud that they have continued the family business and points out that the key thing in the production of wine is – the vineyard.

– We strive to follow new trends, technologies in the vineyard, which later makes it easier for us to process the grapes at the winery. Considering that we are a small winery, we don’t have large quantities of wine yet, so we are careful where we list them. Select restaurants, wine cellars, wine bars recognize our character, our Dika – our interviewee says.

He also says that the plan is to expand new areas under grapevine and maintain the quality and continuity of winemaking.

When it comes to the position of small wine producers in Serbia, he believes that “it is quite good if compared with the previous decades.”

– Plenty is invested in the wine culture, so even small producers find their place with good wines in the market of Serbia and increasingly often the world too.
