A one-stop-control system will be established at the Presevo-Tabanovce border crossing, which means that the control takes place in one spot, which will simplify and accelerate the traffic and avoid an unnecessary keeping of the passengers. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Minister of the Interior of North Macedonia Panche Toshkovski signed an Agreement between the two countries’ governments on the establishment of joint controls at the Presevo-Tabanovce border crossings for international road traffic on Friday.

Dacic noted that a new operational process was being established at these border crossings, with the aim of simplifying the entire procedure for performing border checks, so that police officers of the host country would be authorized to carry out not only entry controls for their own country, but also exit controls for the neighboring country. According to him, each country retains the right to do an additional check of certain passengers if special measures and activities toward those persons need to be taken.

He emphasized that there was very good cooperation between the two ministries of the interior, announcing that it would continue in other segments, such as joint work during the tourism season. Dacic reminded that, the year before, four Serbian police officers visited Ohrid with the aim of carrying out joint patrols.

Deputy Prime Minister said that that practice would continue, regardless of whether it’s Serbian policemen on joint patrols in North Macedonia or policemen from North Macedonia who would come to Serbia for certain events or where there would be a considerable presence of that country’s citizens, such as, for example, the Exit festival, the Government of Serbia says in a press release.

He also reminded of other joint activities of the police services of the two countries, such as participation in regional organizations – SELEC and MARRI, as well as the good cooperation when it comes to illegal migration. Dacic stressed that thanks to that cooperation, a 40% decrease in so-called illegal crossings had been recorded in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period the year before and added that the cooperation of the two countries in that field would therefore continue.

Dacic expressed the readiness of the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia to continue helping in emergency cases in the coming period as well, such as fires, and reminded that helicopters and people had been sent several times to North Macedonia to put out fires.

Toshkovski expressed satisfaction with the signing of the agreement, which would be very important for the faster movement of goods and passengers, and expressed hope that the system would be officially put into operation before the start of the summer season.

He pointed out that the police forces of the two countries had great and continuous cooperation, which would continue in the future.
