By the end of this year, a contract should be signed on the construction of a bridge over the Danube from Backa Palanka to Nestina, which, together with another village in Fruska Gora area - Vizic, belongs to this municipality and is located in Srem.

The construction of that bridge, connecting Backa with Srem sides of the Backa Palanka municipality, was announced ten years ago in the local parliament, and the project's certainty was recently confirmed by the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesic.

During his visit to Backa Palanka last weekend, he stated that the Government of Serbia is negotiating with a Spanish company on the construction of the Backa Palanka-Nestin bridge.

The inhabitants of these two Srem villages can reach Backa Palanka only via Croatia, crossing the border near Ilok in the Vukovar-Srem County. Their only link with Backa Palanka was - and still is - the bridge between this town and Ilok.

In addition to difficulties due to control and detention at the border, which all residents of Nestina and Vizic have when going to work, school or for some other need in the center of their municipality, farmers from these villages have a special problem, because since Croatia's entry into the EU they cannot move their products across the bridge between Ilok and Backa Palanka.

- Due to the situation with this bridge, but also due to other reasons, Backa Palanka is not well connected with other parts of Serbia, and in a way represents a traffic "dead end". In order to overcome that, apart from the bridge that will connect it with Srem, we plan to connect it with a motorway to Novi Sad - Vesic hinted.
