At the Government of Serbia, the agreement on the urgent reconstruction of the rail infrastructure in Serbia was signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The agreement is worth EUR 50 million.

As Jelena Tanaskovic, the director of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure company, pointed out on her Instagram profile, the EBRD loan will enable Serbia to procure the tracks, the crossties, the crushed stone and other materials for the superstructure, thanks to which around 194 kilometers of tracks throughout Serbia will be rehabilitated.

– With the help and support of the state we are today realizing the project of an all-encompassing modernization of the rail infrastructure, including the construction of the fast railroad from Belgrade to Subotica, and it is precisely the EBRD that is one of our most significant partners for the construction of the fast railroad from Belgrade to Nis – said Tanaskovic.

As she added, the task and the aim of Serbia are to also improve the quality of rail traffic, increase train speed and raise the security to a higher level on other regional and local railroads that are not encompassed by this modernization project.

– This project will be realized over the next two years and that will contribute to Serbian railroads continuing the modernization and development in line with the needs and desires of the citizens, the economy and the state of Serbia, so that they would get the place they deserve on the map of developed European traffic routes – she pointed out.

This document was signed by the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, the regional director for Western Balkans at the EBRD, Matteo Colangeli, and Jelena Tanaskovic.
