Belgrade gondola to be revived? – RSD 420 million in city budget for construction of cable car between Usce and Kalemegdan, route and station location set as well

For the construction of the Belgrade gondola, a project that has been announced for years, but about which not much has been heard in public lately, 420 million dinars have been planned in the budget of the City of Belgrade for this year. Although officials have not spoken publicly about this project in recent months, it has not been abandoned, at least judging by the planning documents.

In addition to the city budget, this previously ambitiously announced project of a cable car that should connect Uscee and Kalemegdan is also mentioned in the Urban Planning Project of the Usce Park, for which the Secretariat for Urban Planning and Construction Affairs recently announced a public presentation.

The mast and gondola projects in the UP for the Usce Park are first mentioned in the part that refers to “acquired urban planning obligations.”

According to the PDR of the Friendship Park – Usce, the construction of the Museum of 21st Century Art, the new building of the Natural History Museum, an aquarium, a lookout, an information point and public toilets is planned in this area, and their positioning was the subject of an urban planning and architectural competition, the winning solution of which is the basis for the development of the Urban Planning Project in question.

As stated in the document, according to the PDR of the Friendship Park – Ušće, in addition to the above, a location is planned for the installation of a mast with the flag of the Republic of Serbia, in the immediate vicinity of the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, as well as a gondola solution which, as it says, was taken over as an acquired obligation from the Detailed Regulation Plan for the Kalemegdan – Usce Gondola, the city municipalities of Stari Grad and New Belgrade, on the basis of which the gondola is being implemented.

The gondola route, as stated in the document, extends through the park near Branko’s Bridge, while the gondola station is planned in the immediate vicinity of the intersection of Nikole Tesle Blvd and Mihajla Pupina Blvd.

As eKapija already wrote, in accordance with the initiative of the company EXPO 2027 doo Beograd submitted to the Urban Planning Institute of Belgrade, a zone has been defined within the park for the installation of temporary attraction feature in the form of a balloon for a panoramic sightseeing of Belgrade.

The location of the future balloon is planned to be north of Branko’s Bridge, opposite the Usce Shopping Center, right next to the gondola route. The panoramic balloon is planned to be stationary and moored, and its movement is planned to be vertical to a height of 150 m.

The basket for visitors has a capacity of 30 people, excluding the pilot.
