As pointed out, such a result was achieved despite the fact that sales prices for the economy were about 20 percent lower compared to the same period last year, which is interpreted as a result of improved efficiency and stability of supply during the winter.
Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, Minister of Mining and Energy said that it was crucial that energy security was provided throughout the winter, because generation and supply of electricity were stable, although due to poor hydrology, generation from the hydro sector was 30 percent lower than in the first quarter of 2024. Coal production is higher than last year by eight percent. When compared to 2024, energy production in thermal power plants is also higher by three percent, while coal reserves in coal stocks are higher by eight percent, she said.
In addition to that, as said, the first quarter was marked by the continuation of construction of the first EPS Wind Farm in Kostolac and the Solar Power Plant Petka. With the completion of these projects and their commissioning this year, Serbia will get 76 new green megawatts.
