Zivkovic: EPS developing strategic projects and recognizing potential of hydrogen, biomass and geothermal energy

In a century that will be the century of kilowatt-hours, it is necessary to use all available resources for the production of electricity and to diversify both energy and the economy as much as possible, said Dusan Zivkovic, the general director of Elektroprivreda Srbije at the Kopaonik Business Forum. – The time of the green transition should be viewed more from the aspect of the need for the use of all available energy sources, because energy will be the field that will mark this century. Energy is expected not only to provide energy for a growing economy, but also to be the carrier of overall economic growth. The goal is to ensure long-term energy security, of course with the company’s profitability, and that is why EPS is developing strategic projects such as the pumped-storage HPP “Bistrica” and 1 GW of solar power. And not only that, we want to recognize the potential of hydrogen, but also of biomass and geothermal energy – said Zivkovic. He pointed out that the task of EPS was to create conditions for ensuring the energy security of Serbia and long-term energy peace, but also, as the largest regional company, to contribute to the energy security of the entire region.

– The time ahead of us expects that, that’s why we started the transformation process of the company, because we have to be more efficient and ready to respond to all challenges – said Zivkovic at the panel on the green energy transition.

He cited the financing of green energy projects as one of the key challenges of the decarbonization process.

– Energy companies will be under additional pressure from the economy due to the introduction of CBAM and the CO2 footprint and will face the challenge of financing new RES projects. We need a long-term financing mechanism for the decarbonization process and we expect the Energy Community and the European Union to find solutions – concluded Zivkovic, according to the EPS announcement.
