Exploitation of first quantities of coal from Radljevo open-pit mine announced for next year

The construction of two BTO systems for the stripping of the overburden at the Radljevo open-pit mine within the Mining Basin Kolubara is one of the priority projects for the Government of Serbia, and the Ministry of Mining and Energy is diligently monitoring all the phases of its realization, said the minister of mining and energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

The construction of new mining equipment and the revitalization of the existing mining equipment, as well as the opening of the substitute production capacities, are an important part of the investment activities of EPS, the minister emphasized, as announced on the website of the ministry.

– The total investments in the two BTO systems at the Radljevo open-pit mine amount to EUR 180 million. With their commissioning, in a year, an additional annual production at the overburden in the amount of 16 to 19 million cubic meters will be enabled, creating all the necessary conditions for the beginning of the exploitation of the first quantities of coal from this mine next year. All the activities are oriented toward securing the technological and infrastructural preconditions for an unobstructed exploitation of coal from the open-pit mines, which will secure reliable production of electrical energy in the long term, and with that also an increased energy security of Serbia – said Djedovic Handanovic.
